Abstract

  • The number of poor people (residents with per capita expenditure per month below the Poverty Line) in Jambi Province in September 2020 reached 288.10 thousand people (7.97 percent), an increase of 10.3 thousand people compared to the poor in March 2020 which amounted to 277.80 thousand people (7.58 percent).
  • The percentage of poor people in urban areas in March 2020 was 10.41 percent, increasing to 11.22 percent in September 2020. Meanwhile, the percentage of poor people in rural areas in March 2020 was 6.23 percent, increasing to 6.40 percent in September 2020.
  • During the period March 2020-September 2020, the number of poor people in urban areas increased by 9 thousand people from 123.64 thousand people in March 2020 to 132.60 thousand people in September 2020, while in rural areas it increased by 1.3 thousand people, namely from 154.16 thousand people in March 2020 to 155.50 thousand people in September 2020.
  • The role of food commodities on the poverty line is much greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education and health), both in urban and rural areas. The contribution of the food poverty line to the urban poverty line in September 2020 was recorded at 74.64 percent, while in rural areas it was much higher, reaching 77.03 percent.
  • Food commodities that have a big effect on the poverty line value in urban areas are relatively the same as in rural areas, including rice, filter clove cigarettes, red chilies, eggs, purebred chicken meat, sugar, instant noodles, and wet cakes. Meanwhile, non-food commodities include costs for housing, gasoline, electricity, education, toiletries, water, and clothing.
  • In the period March 2020-September 2020, the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) showed an increase. This indicates that the average expenditure of the poor tends to move further away from the Poverty Line and the expenditure inequality of the poor is also spreading.
